Clark County Wetlands Park to Host Open House
Free, Indoor Event to Introduce Families to Park, Organizations
The Clark County Wetlands Park will host is first Summer Open House from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 2 at the park, located at 7050 Wetlands Park Lane, about 1 mile east of Tropicana Avenue and Boulder Highway. The event will include a wide range of interpretive and interactive exhibits, family friendly activities and crafts, displays featuring desert creatures of all kinds and more. The event is free and open to the public.
Specifically, families can participate in nature-themed story time and craft activities and learn how the water of the Colorado River travels 1,500 miles through three states and Mexico; interesting facts during an interactive bird display; and stories of common park animals through the scat they leave behind.
Partnering organizations, such as the National Park Service, Nevada Naturalists, Henderson Libraries, Outside Las Vegas Foundation, Bureau of Land Management, and birdandhike.com also will offer exhibits and demonstrations.
“Knowing that the weather over the July 4th weekend will be likely sizzling, our guests should be comfortable as the majority of our fun, educational, and informational activities will be held indoors,” said Ben Jurand, program supervisor. “Surprisingly, there are still a good number of locals who have never visited the park. Through the Wetlands Park Summer Open House we hope that first-time visitors as well as guests who visit us regularly will find something fun and interesting to do.”
At 2,900 acres, Clark County Wetlands Park is one of the largest urban wetlands in the Southwest and serves as a popular destination for hikers and bird watchers. More than 300 species of birds and 70 species of mammals and reptiles have been spotted in the park, including beavers, coyotes, bobcats, and snakes. The park features more than 13 miles of trails, including six miles within the Nature Preserve.
