FREE BIRD SHOW
The Birdman of Las Vegas Joe Krathwohl
Hours: 1 & 3 Friday - Sunday.
Joe Krathwohl has birds at his beck and call. Krathwohl is known as the
Birdman of Las Vegas. His troop of feathered performers appear three times a
day at the Tropicana.
Hobie the Cockatoo hails from Hawaii. Amazon Parrots Lolita and Chester
have travelled all the way from the deepest parts of Central America.
Krathwol says his show is full of "crazy stuff and (each bird is) funny -- each
one is different and unique in their own way."
Knowing how to get the stars to perform on cue makes Joe worth his weight in
birdseed. Joe shrugs and says: "Actually it does not take that long to train a
bird. It takes ability to explain that they have a simple job to do for food, shelter
and security -- same things everyone looks for."
Joe also has four rare, endangered Andean condors. He's trying to breed the
Andeans and release them back to their real home. Krathwol established a
foundation called the World Center for Exotic Birds. He also trains and leases
out lions, tigers, and snakes to other shows and parties.
Modeled after Waikiki's International Marketplace, the Hawaiian Marketplace
offers a mix of native island culture, entertainment, and of course shopping!
