additions. Most of the Las Vegas senior activities listed here are free or charge only a small fee to participate.

CITY OF LAS VEGAS SENIOR ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS 2011

The city of Las Vegas active adult and senior centers offer exercise, fitness, craft, arts, dance, music
and computer classes; cards; games; discussion and social groups; luncheons; sports; and special
events Monday through Friday to residents age 50 and better. A listing of classes and activities is
published in the Beyond the Neon Leisure Guide, available in the centers and online at www.
lasvegasparksandrec.com. All activities are subject to change. Most activities require $2 annual
membership to city of Las Vegas Senior Citizen Programs, available at all senior and active adult
centers.

Ongoing Las Vegas Senior Activities and Events

Knitting Group (ages 50+)
Wednesdays, 9am
Cost: free with annual membership.
Centennial Hills Active Adult Center, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive, (702) 229-1702.
Whether you need a refresher or want to begin knitting, bring your supplies and join the group!

Line Dancing (ages 50+)
Thursdays, 2 to 4pm, and Fridays, 10am to noon.
Cost: Free with membership.

Have fun and get exercise dancing!

Tuesday and Friday Ballroom Dances (ages 50+)
Tuesdays, 3 to 5:30pm, and Fridays, 2 to 4pm
Fee: $4 each day; must be current member in city of Las Vegas Senior Programs ($2/year).

Ballroom Dance Socials are held every Tuesday night and Friday afternoon with live music by Boyd
Coulter and his band.

Award-Winning Community Garden (ages 50+)
Doolittle Senior Center, 1930 N. J St., (702) 229-6125.
Join our work crew and reap the benefits of fresh vegetables, fruits and flowers. The garden has 40
raised gardening beds. The garden is located in the 1200 block of Blankenship. Please call the center
to get involved, and for further details. Master Gardner Don Fabbi meets with volunteer gardeners on
Wednesdays at 9 am
25 Weekly Fitness Classes (ages 50+)
Cost: $15 per month
Centennial Hills Active Adult Center, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive, (702) 229-1702.
Classes include Yoga, Water and Arthritis Aerobics, Cardio Dance, Dynamic Fitness – Cardio, Dynamic
Fitness – Power Hour, Tai Chi, plus many others. Call 229-1702 for a complete listing. Through a
partnership with the Centennial Hills YMCA, center members have limited time free usage of the
cardio/weight room and the indoor lap pool.  Enjoy doing fitness on your own in a state-of-the-art fitness
center and pool — enjoy the stationary bike, treadmill, elliptical, and free weights or take a dip in the
pool.  

Pickle Ball (adults)
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 9 to 11:30am
Cost: $2 per year center membership fee.

Pickle ball is a good activity for seniors and is easy to play. Equipment and instruction are provided. For

Holiday Carol Luncheon (ages 50+)

2nd Annual Lieburn Cookie Exchange (ages 50+)
Wednesday, December 14, 2pm
Free when you bring six dozen cookies. Advance registration required.
Lieburn Senior Center, 6230 Garwood Ave., (702) 229-1600.
Sign up early; exchange limited to 16 participants.  Everyone goes home with 16 kinds of cookies and a
recipe book. Recipes are due Dec. 7, so the recipe book can be prepared.

Winter Holiday Brunch (ages 50+)
Thursday, December 15, 11am
Cost: $7. Advance registration required by Dec. 8.

Holiday Luncheon and Show (ages 50+)

Cost: $5.

Enjoy roast beef, potatoes, vegetables, salad, rolls, dessert and an awesome floor show.  

Councilman Coffin Winter Wonderland (ages 50+)
Saturday December 17, noon to 2pm
Must bring a school-age child for admission.
East Las Vegas Community Senior Center Ballroom, 250 N. Eastern Ave.
A twist on the traditional holiday luncheon, senior admission is a school-age child. Doors will open at
noon; lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. with entertainment, raffles and a visit with Santa Claus for the
young and young at heart. Must R.S.V.P. in advance, as seating is limited. Registration begins
Thursday, Dec. 1. Please call 229-6851 to register for your special seating for this magical holiday event.
