On a daily basis, the National Atomic Testing Museum informs visitors of the nuclear challenges of the bygone Cold War. What about the nuclear challenges that face us present and await us in future, though? Find out this and much more as the Nevada Test Site Historical Foundation and University of Nevada, Las Vegas present “21st Century Global Nuclear Challenges.”

On Wednesday, May 25, starting at 5:30 PM with a special reception, UNLV’s College of Engineering will be hosting an esteemed panel featuring:

Dr. Siegfried Hecker is an internationally recognized expert in plutonium science, global threat reduction and nuclear security, a research professor at Stanford University, and a former Director of the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Dr. Robert Kuckuck is a former Director of Los Alamos National Laboratory, former Deputy Director of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and currently serves as a member of the Nuclear Weapons External Advisory Board for Sandia National Laboratories.

Dr. C. Paul Robinson has made significant contributions to U.S. national security, arms control, and proliferation prevention for the last 40 years. He is a former President and Director of Sandia National Laboratories and currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Advanced Reactor Concepts, LLC.

These former directors of the United States’ nuclear security laboratories will focus on the most compelling nuclear challenges now facing the global community during their 7:00 PM panel discussion. Come join the NATM and UNLV for an exceptional evening with some of the greatest minds in the field!

We hear about them all the time in the news. We know the government has them and that other countries are scrambling to get them. Maybe you or your neighbors even use them for recreational purposes. But what do we really know about drones and their impact on our lives? Find out during the next installment of our 2016 Distinguished Lecture Series!

On Saturday, May 14, starting at 6:00 PM with an informal meet and greet, the museum will be hosting a special presentation from Lockheed Martin’s Information Systems & Global Solutions Fellow Leonard Gentile.

A Drone and Counter-Drone expert, Gentile will discuss what is being done to bring order to the proliferation of unmanned aerial vehicles, otherwise known as drones, during his 7:00 PM talk! He will also explore the different categories of drones and what is being done to protect the public. Complementary light refreshments and snacks will be served to guests.
