ADL Walk Against Hate
April 29 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm$10 – $20
ADL Walk Against Hate Presented by Barrick Gold Promotes Diversity and Inclusion
on April 29.
The community will come together again for the second ADL Walk Against Hate to celebrate and promote diversity and inclusion in Southern Nevada. Presented by Barrick Gold, the walk and event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon., Sunday, April 29 at Springs Preserve, 333. S. Valley View Blvd.
The Anti-Defamation League is organizing the family-oriented, multi-cultural event, which features appearances by local officials; emcee Tricia Kean, Channel 13 anchor; and community leaders. There also will be entertainment and booths. As part of the ADL’s No Place for Hate® initiative, about 20 local schools will be awarded with their banners designating them as “No Place for Hate®”. Event co-chairs are Alana Gross and Adam Petrasich.
The community walk will weave through the northwest section of Springs Preserve through various desert habitats and Boomtown 1905, a re-created historical streetscape that tells the story of Las Vegas from 1905 to 1920. Following the walk, attendees are invited to explore other areas and exhibits in Springs Preserve.
“We’re pleased to be bringing so many different groups in our community together again for Walk Against Hate,” said Gross. “While we celebrate our diversity, we all share the common belief that injustice anywhere is wrong and there is work to be done. We can change things for the better – for our families and our communities – if we do it together, and the ADL Walk Against Hate is a great place to start.”
Petrasich agrees. “We were so successful with our first ADL Walk Against Hate last year that we wanted to keep the momentum and dialogue going, and make the walk an annual occurrence. We’re appreciative of the partners from last year who are participating again this year, and look forward to welcoming new students, educators, parents, business leaders, houses of worship and community members who want to get involved and walk with us to take a stand against hate,” he said. More than 700 people participated last year.
Registration begins at 8:45 a.m.; and the program starts at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Walk Against Hate and ADL No Place for Hate® banner ceremony. There will be performances before and after the walk.
The cost of the event includes a special ADL Walk Against Hate T-shirt, and is $20 per adult and $10 per school-age child. Parking is free. Additionally there are various team, participation and sponsorship opportunities. Current sponsors are Barrick Gold, Caesars Entertainment, KTNV-TV Channel 13, and GUESS.
To participate and for information, visit www.walkagainsthatelv.org, call 702-862-8600 or email Courtney Kravitz at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Event proceeds will support ADL’s award-winning A World of Difference® Institute anti-bias and anti-bullying programs for students, teachers, administrators and parents throughout Nevada and the ADL No Place for Hate® initiative in K-12 schools.
The ADL Walk Against Hate began in 2010 at ADL Philadelphia, and now includes Las Vegas for the second year in a row and San Diego for its inaugural walk.
