Sin City Opera’s, Eugene Onegin will be presented in English with supertitles, fully staged, with the full 14 piece orchestra under the direction of Maestro, Dean Balan. The story lends its self splendidly to the 1920’s “Great Gatsby” style update that Director, Matthew Kirchner has created for the stage. The libretto, by the composer, himself, and Konstantin Shilovsky, is a musically sumptuous realization of Alexander Pushkin’s novel in verse of the same name, retaining much of his poetry. Eugene Onegin is a well-known example of lyric opera, to which Tchaikovsky added music of a dramatic nature. The story concerns a selfish hero who lives to regret his blasé rejection of a young woman’s love and his careless incitement of a fatal duel with his best friend.
