Las Vegas Stories: Played Out on the Strip
Co-sponsored by University of Nevada Press
Thursday, September 01 – 7 p.m.
Jewel Box Theater
From 1940 to 1989, nearly every hotel on the Las Vegas Strip employed a full-time band or orchestra. In 1989, the musician’s union went on strike and almost all Strip musicians found themselves unemployed. Join us as Janis L. McKay traces the factors of the strike and the rise and fall of the Las Vegas casino band.
This monthly series examines the history of Las Vegas, the people, places and things that make Vegas our home.
