The spirit of Mardi Gras arrives downtown, Friday, Feb. 24, 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Historic Fifth Street School, 401 S. Fourth St. Enjoy an evening of New Orleans food and music featuring Jeffery Broussard & The Creole Cowboys, an influential band at the forefront of the nouveau zydeco movement. Broussard’s accordion playing and vocals define this new style of Creole music, incorporating the soulful sounds of rhythm and blues into contemporary zydeco music and dance. He has retained those precious melodies and songs he heard at home, at social gatherings and on the bandstand. With the creation of the Creole Cowboys, and as one of Louisiana’s newest Creole fiddle players, he captures the essence of this rich musical heritage. Tickets are priced at $10 plus tax in advance and $15 plus tax on event day. Go online to www.artslasvegas.org or call 702-229-ARTS (2787) for tickets and information. Refreshments will be available for purchase. The Las Vegas Academy of the Arts Jazz Combo will provide entertainment starting at 6:30 p.m. This program is supported, in part, with funds provided by the Western States Arts Federation, the Nevada Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
