About the El Grito Celebration

Mexican Independence Day is officially celebrated on September 16, but one of its most important traditions takes place the night before. On September 15, communities gather for El Grito, a ceremonial remembrance of the historic call that helped begin Mexico’s struggle for independence from Spain.

Grand Canal Shoppes will bring that tradition to St. Mark’s Square at 10:00 p.m., combining the ceremony with live music and dance in a public cultural celebration.

Visitors can also see Grand Canal Shoppes’ colorful papel picado installation during their visit. The handcrafted decorative banners will be displayed throughout September beneath the Tivoli lights near Smith & Wollensky and Fogo de Chão.

Guests who spend at least $500 in same-day purchases can receive a signature Grand Canal Shoppes luxury denim tote bag while supplies last. Redemption is available from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Guest Services near Michael Kors.

No purchase is required to enjoy the Mexican Independence Day entertainment or El Grito ceremony.

Plan Your Visit

Grand Canal Shoppes is located inside The Venetian Resort Las Vegas. St. Mark’s Square is on Retail Level 2 near Mercato della Pescheria and Pandora. Seating for the live entertainment is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis, so arriving early is a good idea.

Guests can also take photos with the mariachi musicians and folkloric dancers after their performances.

Visitors attending Tuesday night’s El Grito ceremony should allow extra time to walk through the resort and reach St. Mark’s Square before 10:00 p.m.

Parking and transportation conditions can change during busy Las Vegas Strip evenings. Review the Las Vegas parking fees guide before driving to the resort.
