Don’t miss La Belle et la Bête (A Philip Glass Masterpiece), presented by Vegas City Opera.

Get ready to be enchanted by a wonderfully unique experience! Vegas City Opera presents a spectacle that blends elements of opera with a more artistic movie experience. The music for this production was written by the modern composer Philip Glass and reimagines the classic 1946 film by Jean Cocteau, “La Belle et La Bête”. Instead of leaving the original movie’s sound on the soundtrack, Philip Glass has created a new ambient background using synthesizers as the primary instruments. The actors from the movie will perform simultaneously with the singers from the opera. As a result, the combination of the actors’ performances, which synchronizes wonderfully with the emotional depth of the opera singers, revitalizes Cocteau’s surrealistic black-and-white images.

Why Locals Will Love It: It isn’t your childhood fairy tale—it is romantic, surreal, and just a little eerie. The production features beloved local talent, including VCO favorite and UNLV professor Jawan Jenkins as the Beast (la Bête) and the enchanting mezzo-soprano Courtney Ankerfelt as Belle.
