This thrilling steel hyper-roller coaster, designed by Japanese manufacturer TOGO, has quite a history. Did you know that the Big Apple Coaster was originally known as the Manhattan Express Roller Coaster when it opened back in 1997?
Name Evolution: It began its journey as the Manhattan Express when New York New York opened back in 1997. It later underwent a name change to The Roller Coaster in 2007. Finally, in 2013, it adopted its current moniker, the Big Apple Coaster.
Unique Features: When it first opened, the coaster was one of only two in the world to feature a heartline roll and dive. Imagine the exhilaration as you twist and dive high above the Las Vegas Strip!
Construction and Challenges: The coaster was part of the development of the New York-New York Hotel and Casino, a project by MGM and Primadonna Resorts. It cost a whopping $18 million to complete. Many of the ride’s steel tension rods had to be replaced to ensure a safe experience for thrill-seekers.
