What to Expect at the Showgirl Gateway Sign

The Downtown Las Vegas Showgirl Gateway Sign is built for photos. The two tall showgirls stand on the median and frame the “Las Vegas” letters, while the surrounding pavement includes oversized dice, a roulette table design, and poker-chip details.

By day, the display is easy to spot as a roadside downtown landmark. At night, the lights make the showgirls, letters, and headdresses much more dramatic. The color-changing LEDs are the main reason to visit after dark.

This is not a ticketed attraction or a walk-through exhibit. It is a public landmark beside active streets, so visitors should use sidewalks, crosswalks, and safe public viewing areas when taking photos.

How to Find the Downtown Las Vegas Showgirl Gateway Sign

The sign is located where Main Street meets Las Vegas Boulevard, near the north end of downtown Las Vegas and close to The STRAT.

Because the sign is on a median and near active traffic, rideshare is often easier than trying to stop directly beside it. Use nearby public sidewalks and marked crossings, and do not step into traffic lanes for photos.

This sign is also close to the Las Vegas Gateway Arches, making both landmarks easy to pair during a north Strip or downtown photo route.

Photo Tips for the Showgirl Gateway Sign

  • Go at night: The color-changing letters and lit headdresses look best after dark.
  • Use video: Short clips can show the changing lights better than still photos.
  • Stay out of traffic: Take photos only from safe public areas, sidewalks, or designated viewing spots.
  • Frame the full display: Step back when possible so the showgirls, letters, and casino-themed pavement details fit in the shot.
  • Pair nearby signs: Add the Las Vegas Gateway Arches or The STRAT area for a simple free landmark route.

A Short History of the Downtown Showgirl Gateway Sign

The current 50-foot showgirls were installed by YESCO in 2022 for the City of Las Vegas. Each showgirl weighs about 6,800 pounds, and the large headdresses were fabricated separately before final installation.

The newer showgirls replaced smaller 2018 showgirl signs. Those earlier signs were about 26 feet tall and were planned for refurbishment and a new nearby home around Fourth Street.

The display continues Las Vegas’ long tradition of using bold illuminated signs as public landmarks. The showgirls, oversized dice, roulette-wheel design, and poker-chip details give the north end of downtown a photo-friendly entrance marker tied to classic Las Vegas style.
