What Counts as Household Hazardous Waste?
Household hazardous waste, or HHW, includes unused products that can create a safety or environmental hazard when discarded improperly. Check labels for warnings such as caution, warning, danger, poison, toxic, flammable, corrosive, or reactive.
Improper disposal can contaminate soil and water, damage plumbing, expose sanitation workers, or cause fires when incompatible materials mix.
Las Vegas Valley HHW Drop-Off Locations
The 2026 program rotates between two sites. Both follow the HHW calendar’s Wednesday-through-Saturday, 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. schedule and close on holidays.

Boulder City and Mesquite residents: Local official guidance directs residents to their community-specific waste provider. Confirm eligibility and instructions with Boulder City Disposal or Virgin Valley Disposal before traveling to a Las Vegas Valley HHW site.
Eligibility, Fees, and Quantity Limits
- Household waste only: The community program is not for commercial, industrial, contractor, or business-generated waste.
- Dry-material limit: 40 pounds.
- Liquid limit: 15 gallons, measured by container size.
- Gasoline limit: Five gallons.
- Containers: Materials must be in structurally sound, sealed containers.
- Proof of eligibility: Henderson advises Republic Services residential customers to bring a recent residential bill and valid photo identification.
Fees and eligibility can vary by residence, account status, material, and facility. Confirm before leaving home, particularly if you are not a Republic Services residential customer.
Businesses should arrange disposal through an appropriately licensed commercial hazardous- or special-waste provider.

Paint, Batteries, Bulbs, Oil, and Medications
Paint and Solvents
Take liquid paint, oil-based paint, paint thinner, and solvents to an approved HHW or paint-recycling location. Do not put wet paint in trash or recycling. Fully dried or properly solidified latex paint may be eligible for regular trash under local guidance; confirm the preparation method with your waste provider.
Single-Use Alkaline Batteries
Small quantities of non-rechargeable alkaline batteries may go in regular trash under Southern Nevada Health District guidance, but never place them in curbside recycling. Recycling is preferable when an accepting program is available.
Rechargeable and Lithium Batteries
Recycle rechargeable and lithium batteries through an approved program. Protect exposed terminals with nonconductive tape or place batteries in separate plastic bags to reduce fire risk. Never place lithium batteries in curbside recycling.
Fluorescent and Mercury-Containing Bulbs
Handle fluorescent tubes, compact fluorescent lamps, and other mercury-containing bulbs carefully to prevent breakage. Retail acceptance varies. Call the specific store or recycling location before visiting.
Used Motor Oil and Antifreeze
Some automotive-service and parts locations accept used oil or antifreeze, but policies and limits vary. Keep fluids separate and call ahead. Do not combine oil with fuel, coolant, water, solvents, or other chemicals.
Unused Medications
Do not flush medications unless the label or federal guidance specifically directs it. Use a pharmacy, law-enforcement, or other authorized medication take-back location when available.
How to Store and Transport Hazardous Waste Safely
- Keep products in their original labeled containers whenever possible.
- Never mix or consolidate different chemicals.
- Do not puncture aerosol cans.
- Close containers tightly and check for leaks before loading.
- Place containers upright in a sturdy box or plastic bin.
- Separate incompatible products so they cannot spill together.
- Keep materials away from passengers, heat, sparks, flames, and direct sunlight.
- Drive directly to the approved facility and unload only when instructed.
If a container is leaking, bulging, corroded, crystallized, unlabeled, or otherwise unsafe to move, do not place it in your vehicle until an official source has advised you how to handle it.

Can I use the transfer station’s regular hours for hazardous waste?
